  • What’s the difference between a Personal Chef, Private Chef and a Caterer?"
A personal chef works for multiple households with a wide range of requirements and preferences. Cook day frequency and the number of entrees are established based on clients’ needs and goals. The personal chef is responsible for menu planning, grocery shopping, meal preparation, packaging the meals for the refrigerator or freezer, cleaning the kitchen and leaving detailed reheating instructions. A private chef typically works full time for a single family or household. They offer customized meals based on their client’s individual requirements and preferences and often cook 2-3 meals per day. A caterer works on an as needed basis from a certified kitchen. A relatively limited menu is selected with set prices per dish or per serving. A caterer is often a team of chefs and waitstaff that work single events.
  • Can you deliver food instead of cooking in my kitchen?
Current health regulations require a personal chef to either prepare the food in the home of the client or in a commercial kitchen. By cooking your food in your home, you receive personalized food prepared just for you. Bountiful does offer clients baked goods that are prepared in the chef's personal residence as a Cottage Food Production Operation.
  • Will you provide all your own tools and utensils?
We will bring a majority of the tools needed but will occasionally make use of the client’s kitchen equipment. All client's equipment will be cleaned and put away at the completion of the cook date.
  • How do you deal with unique ingredients I wouldn't typically have on hand?
Some dishes require tiny portions of that perfect spice or ingredient. Rather than buying a full jar or package at the client’s expense, Bountiful will draw from their business pantry. This helps ensure a client’s pantry is not cluttered with ingredients they may never use on their own and it helps to reduce overall food waste. Bountiful does not charge for items they draw from their business pantry.
  • Can you use ingredients I already have on hand?
Absolutely! We can incorporate your existing ingredients into your customized menu as well as help assess your current food stores and make the best use of what you have on hand without needing to purchase more.
  • Do I need to provide you with a key to my house?
This is a matter of personal preference. If you prefer not to provide a key, we will coordinate to arrive at a time that you’re sure to be home.
  • Do I need to do anything prior to our cook date?
The best way to make your personal chef happy is to ensure your kitchen counter and sink are empty when we arrive for the cook date. Since make-ahead meals will need fridge or freezer space, making room for meal containers is very helpful.
  • How do I pay for the personal chef service?
For the first cook date, the full chef’s fee is required in advance. Grocery reimbursement will take place on the cook day. Clients will receive a full invoice for the cook date, including all expenses. During follow-up cook dates, Invoicing and payments will be customized based on the frequency of the services provided. Bountiful accepts check, cash and electronic transfers. These details will be further discussed during the consultation.
  • What if I need to cancel a cook date?
We require 48-hr cancellation notice for a cook date. A cancellation fee of $50 will be charged if the cancellation falls within 48 hrs.
  • How does a Personal Chef Service work?
It all begins with a conversation. We schedule a time to meet and discuss the food preferences, special diets and any details to make your dinners special. When you're ready, we schedule a cook date. Several days prior to your cook date, Bountiful sends a customized menu and offers options based on your specific preferences. After you approve the menu, your work is done. On your cook date, Bountiful shops for the freshest ingredients, comes to your home and cooks. Your food is packaged based on your preferences, with detailed reheating instructions. Before leaving, we clean your kitchen so you find it as you left it. If you're happy with Bountiful's services and wish to continue, we collaborate on future meals, cook dates and schedules that meet your needs. Customer satisfaction is important to this process, so we will always ask for your feedback.
